Carrie Bercic has established herself as an ardent public education advocate, a champion of cooperation, and someone who delivers results for Vancouver students.
From the time her own children entered schools, until after their graduation, Carrie has been involved in public education as a volunteer, parent leader, and advocate. She volunteered in her children’s classrooms and school libraries, and sat on the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) Executive, from 1998 to 2014.
Through her decades of experience in the school system, Carrie saw firsthand how classroom resources were reduced and clawed back. Frustrated at seeing the VSB being forced to cut essential programs, eliminate critical staff positions, and put off maintenance to school buildings, Carrie was motivated to take action. Since 2014 she has attended every board, committee, and special meeting at the Vancouver School Board (VSB) as well as being actively involved in Parent Advocacy Network for Public Education (PAN), Families Against Cuts to Education (FACE), and Friends of the School Library (FOSL).
Carrie is running for School Trustee because she believes public education is the great equalizer. As Trustee, Carrie will advocate for seismically safe, well-maintained, neighbourhood schools. Carrie will champion teachers and staff, so they are given the necessary support and tools to help every child reach their full learning potential.
As a Trustee, Carrie looks forward to a change in tone at the School Board. She is committed to championing a collaborative approach with other trustees, staff, and stakeholders.
Carrie will ensure all Vancouver students can thrive and reach their full potential as learners by ensuring they have the support and resources to do so.
