Canvass Training - Sept 14

OneCity Canvassing Training

A chance for the faces of OneCity – our candidates and our lead canvassers – to get really confident and comfortable talking to voters.

Part 1 (6-7pm): The why and how
Our target numbers. Why we collect contact information instead of just pass out leaflets. How to open the conversation, say what needs to be said, and invite the person to meaningful action, which starts with signing up. How to answer common questions. How to say goodbye to time vampires. How to get all fields filled in legible writing.

Optional – Part 2 (7-8pm): The people part
This section is offered by Shayna Hornstein, an adult educator, body-focused counsellor, and registered physical therapist, who offers workplace resilience training to organizations. She has offered this training to non-profit organizations such as Dogwood and it is still in development. This is an invitation to explore the not-mentioned side of canvassing.
Different moments on the canvass trail are going to be challenging to us – whether we are face to face at an event, at the door, or on the phone. Our foolproof strategies don't always work. We tense up, grit our teeth, and suffer through. You are told not to "take it personally," but your body takes canvassing personally. Physical discomfort needs physical strategies. Come try out different techniques to see what works for you, to get your brain and body working together to ease the tension. Our goal is that you feel energized about your time canvassing, no matter what happens.

Please RSVP so we know to expect you. We are reserving spaces for our candidates and lead canvassers.
