Unsafe levels of lead were reported in drinking water in 1 of every 4 of the B.C. schools in 2018, including eight schools with levels more than 100 times higher than the allowable limit. Carrie Bercic, OneCity's School Trustee, is the only Trustee who has brought the issue forward for a public vote at the School Board. The Vancouver School Board’s overall anti-racism strategy needs more programs geared to Vancouver’s current realities and emerging needs, and more staff to do that work.
In Vancouver, we are not currently meeting the requirements of the Supreme Court decision on classroom size and composition. Vancouver School Board classes must be organized from the start of the school year to meet these limits. To do this, we need more teachers.
