Keeping our promise
Dear friends,
Since last fall I’ve had the privilege of talking with Vancouverites across our city. In small living room gatherings, at large community events, in business boardrooms and in labour halls, I listened to what people wanted from City Hall, and how that could look different.
Over the last few days, I’ve reflected on those conversations, and on a commitment OneCity and I made at the beginning of this campaign.
We promised Vancouverites that there would be one progressive candidate for mayor on the ballot this election.
Today, I’m keeping that promise: I have decided to end my campaign for Mayor of Vancouver.
If we want to defeat Ken Sim and ABC and change the direction of our city, progressives need to unite behind a single candidate for mayor. It’s what the people have asked of us, and it’s what all the progressive parties committed to doing.
I want to wish the candidates who are still in the race, our incredible OneCity Candidates, Pete Fry, the Greens, and COPE the absolute best of luck. I'm counting on you, and our city is counting on you.
I want to be clear: we are not done. OneCity is not going anywhere. OneCity has never been about one candidate. We have an incredible team running for City Council, School Board, and Park Board, and it has been an honour to campaign alongside them.
Our candidates, staff, members, and volunteers have built something real: a team working together because we believe in the same thing: a voice for every Vancouverite who's stopped believing City Hall is listening, a place for every Vancouverite priced further and further from the city they grew up in, and a future for every Vancouverite who's wondered whether this city still has room for them.
To everyone who put their trust in me: thank you.
I’m asking you to help us elect our incredible OneCity candidates to City Council, School Board, and Park Board. Keep showing up. Keep talking with your neighbours. Keep building the city we know is possible.
I’ve said throughout this campaign that Vancouver’s best days are ahead of us. I still believe that.
Now we get back to work creating them.
