Since OneCity was first formed, we have had amazing members who are in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and we continue to be supporters and allies of the queer community. OneCity recognizes the continued harms being done to people in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and are deeply concerned about rhetoric and actions that result in people feeling excluded, isolated and abused.
We know that queer youth are often subjected to bullying and harassment that have a deep impact on their feelings of safety, security and self-worth. We believe that schools need to be safe places for all students and staff.
This is why we unequivocally support SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity)-inclusive education and know how essential it is in supporting queer kids and families to feel safe. We know that teachers work every day to support all students and we thank them for this work and know it aligns with the provincial curriculum.
This week, rallies are being held across Canada that will spread hate and fear, and raise anti-trans sentiment that pits parents against kids and schools. We believe these rallies are counter Canadian values and to OneCity's values of equity and inclusion. We will proudly join the counter protest being held outside the Vancouver Art Gallery (750 Hornby Street) this Wednesday, Sept. 20th at 12pm.
As always, we are stronger when we stand together.
Please join us at the counter-rally and invite family, friends, and neighbours to join you!
This will be a peaceful protest. WEAR PINK, WHITE AND/OR BLUE!!!
Meet Christine and the OneCity team at the bike racks in Robson Square, on the north side of Robson Street, at 12pm.
