"I am increasingly worried about the voices of students, parents, caregivers, educators, and the public that are not only being silenced, but that are actively unwelcome at the decision-making table."
Jennifer Reddy’s poignant and important reflections on her role as Trustee shared in Ripple of Change magazine give us much to think about. She insists on more transparent and accountable and accessible institutions in her writing and her daily work.
I am so proud to watch her speak truth to power at the school board table. She's holding the school district accountable on issues like supporting and affirming UNDRIP, protecting school land from sale, and implementing anti-racism training for all district employees. I know you’ll agree that her commitment to Vancouver students is unparalleled.
However, Jennifer is on her own at that table. Her voice and perspective is often dismissed, her motions voted down, and her valuable contributions made redundant in service of the status quo. That’s why we have to work so hard to get a new team elected in October. There are four stellar candidates running alongside Jennifer. They are strong advocates and energetic leaders. They bring heaps of experience to the table that will allow us to campaign on issues of access, equity, transparent decision making and good governance. Meet our candidates for School Board here.
Will you help us prepare for success in October’s election? Can you donate $20 and share this message to help us run the strongest School Board campaign we can? Your efforts will help us bring issues of equity, inclusion, land, and democracy to the forefront this campaign and I know we can do it with your support.
There is so much more Jennifer can do for Vancouver students. Let’s help her get it done.
