ABC has once again dodged responsibility, delaying a proposed pause on Vancouver’s Integrity Commissioner until April 2025. With public frustration mounting, OneCity Vancouver is pushing for a government that listens to the people and takes action on the real issues facing our city.

VANCOUVER (Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Territories) - After a special meeting at City Council, ABC’s latest attempt to dodge responsibility has resulted in yet another delay. The vote on Vancouver’s Integrity Commissioner has now been kicked down the line until April 9, 2025. This comes after Councillor Zhou’s attempt to rescind the motion to suspend the commissioner was ruled out of order, leaving him to propose a “random” date next year.

Why the delay? ABC councillors are included in an active complaint, sparking accusations of conflict of interest. Constituents have been vocal about the need for transparency and integrity in government, but ABC continues to bury its mistakes. ABC councilors are included in a complaint filed with the office, regarding making governmental decisions out in the open, public sphere and not behind private or closed doors.

This isn’t the first time Mayor Sim and his team have sidestepped accountability.

From the chaotic handling of Vancouver's elected Park Board to failing on key issues like childcare and greenspace at the School Board, ABC’s leadership has left many frustrated. Public outrage grows with each misstep, and it’s no surprise that 70% of Vancouverites now believe the ABC majority is out of touch with the needs of the city.

OneCity Vancouver stands firm in demanding a government that prioritizes people—not power. With so many challenges facing our city, we can’t afford leaders who hide from tough decisions. It’s time for leadership that’s clear, accountable, and focused on making Vancouver better for everyone.

OneCity Trustee Jennifer Reddy said:

Just like in our schools, we’ve seen a pattern where ABC rushes to make decisions, avoids dealing with the consequences. ABC's unaccountable style adds to the public's growing frustration. Vancouver needs and deserves leaders who will make important decisions in public and with integrity. We must keep fighting for a city where fairness and transparency are not the exception, but the rule.

Is ABC listening to the priorities and needs of the public or avoiding another one of their own mistakes? We may find out in April.
