OneCity commits to reverse any cuts to climate and sustainability programs

A OneCity Mayor and Council would uphold Vancouver's climate commitments.

VANCOUVER (Musqueam, Squamish and Tsieil-Waututh Territories) - If elected in October 2026, a OneCity Mayor and Council would reverse any and all cuts made to the city’s climate and sustainability programs as a consequence of the current budget process.

OneCity Councillor Lucy Maloney announced the commitment this morning, prior to the start of the Vancouver City Council’s meeting to review the draft 2026 Capital and Operating Budget.

“Vancouver has built one of North America’s strongest and most equity-focused climate and sustainability programs,” said Lucy Maloney. ”We simply cannot afford to lose all of that hard-fought progress.”

“A OneCity Mayor and Council would restore Vancouver’s position as a global urban climate leader by reversing any cuts made by Ken Sim’s ABC to the city’s climate and sustainability policies and programs,” Maloney said.

Citing unnamed sources, a November 10 news article in Canada’s National Observer suggested that Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim is planning to eliminate the city’s sustainability and climate department under his proposed “Zero Means Zero” budget.
