Lucy Maloney calls on TEAM to return Dallas Brodie donation

VANCOUVER (Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Territories) - Lucy Maloney is calling on TEAM for a Livable Vancouver, and its candidates Colleen Hardwick and Theodore Abbott, to return a donation from MLA Dallas Brodie.

Brodie donated the maximum amount to TEAM on December 28, 2023.

Since then, as an elected MLA, she has mocked residential school survivors, described Indigenous people as an ‘elite racial minority’, and talked about a ‘multi-billion-dollar reconciliation industry’. She continues to engage in residential school denialism and acts in direct conflict with the City of Vancouver’s commitment to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

As parties’ 2024 disclosures are not yet public, the amount that Brodie has donated to TEAM since 2023 is unknown. Regardless, a political party in Vancouver must not accept money from an individual with beliefs that are incredibly damaging to Indigenous people across the city, province, and country.

We call on TEAM to return the donation from Dallas Brodie, and encourage everyone to confront residential school denialism

Lucy Maloney, OneCity Vancouver candidate for City Council:

“Vancouver is a City of Reconciliation. MLA Brodie’s attitudes have no place anywhere in Canada, let alone a City that has integrated the UN Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples into its laws and operations. TEAM should reject donations from someone who has mocked residential school survivors. I and OneCity stand strongly in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples and meaningful reconciliation.”
