It’s time for a maximum temperature bylaw in Vancouver.

Vancouver’s summers have become scorchers. Every year, tenants without air conditioning are forced to swelter indoors.

And sometimes, like in the 2021 Heat Dome, the heat can turn deadly.

Last year, Cllr. Christine Boyle tabled and passed an amendment directing city staff to bring back recommendations for implementing a maximum indoor temperature bylaw. When the staff report comes back, it will be up to this Council to approve it.

As climate-driven extreme weather events become more common, we need to get ready.

Tell Ken Sim and ABC Vancouver: renters shouldn’t be left to roast in their homes.
