Our city is already facing the effects of the climate crisis, from atmospheric rivers to heat domes.

We can only solve the climate crisis if we bring everyone along by centering equity and justice in all solutions. And every city, community and country must do its part.

Ken Sim has defunded Vancouver’s Climate Emergency Action Plan, tried to force gas into new buildings, and even - bizarrely - claimed that Bitcoin will save our climate.

He lost a vote to force methane gas into new buildings. He’s declared his intention to bring it back. If his candidates win in this by-election, he’ll win next time, and Vancouver’s climate leadership will be irreparably damaged.

Together with other progressives at Council, I will fight for real climate action that leaves no one behind.

Priorities for 2025-2026

I will stop Ken Sim from forcing methane gas into new buildings.

Burning methane gas to heat buildings is the largest source of carbon pollution in Vancouver. Keeping methane gas out of new buildings is one the best tools we have to fight climate change.

I will champion Vancouver's Climate Emergency Action Plan, ensuring it is properly funded and resourced.

Principles for a Vancouver with a healthy and livable climate

We must retrofit current buildings.

This means prioritizing rental and social housing – to make them healthier and safer during extreme weather events while protecting tenants.

This also means requiring access to cooling as part of building retrofits, especially through high-efficiency electric heat pumps, to ensure homes and places of work can remain below 26 degrees.

We must plant more street trees.

This means ensuring that Ken Sim keeps his promise to plant 100,000 more trees to protect neighbourhoods from extreme heat. When planting these trees, we should focus first on neighbourhoods that have the lowest amount of tree canopy and those that experienced the most fatalities during the 2021 heat dome.

We must make it easier to get around without a car.

Reducing car dependency is one of the best ways to tackle climate change. See our transportation policy for our plan.

Seth Klein, author of "A Good War: Mobilizing Canada for the Climate Emergency"

"We need to elect Lucy Maloney to city council, to protect and advance Vancouver's Climate Emergency Action Plan. If Ken Sim wins more seats he's going to re-introduce fossil fuel heating to new buildings, reversing an essential Vancouver climate policy win that has been a beacon to the rest of the country."
